About this place
The church of Santo Domingo de Guzmán is one of the main buildings in Terrinches and one of the essential visits within the town center.
Its presence helps to understand the historical and religious importance of the town, as well as offering one of the most interesting interiors in the municipality.
This is a temple that perfectly summarizes the evolution of parish architecture in the Campo de Montiel region in modern times, within a town where religious heritage, castle and landscape form a very coherent whole.
It was built in the 17th century following the Counter-Reformation norms.
Presents Latin cross floor plan, a single nave, a very short transept, and three side chapels on both sides, which defines a clear and orderly space, very suitable to the liturgical approaches of this moment.
Among these chapels, the most notable are the Chapel of the Souls, founded by the Ballesteros family, the Chapel of Ecce Homo, linked to the Duke of San Fernando, and the Chapel of the Virgin of the Rosary, related to the Bustos family, demonstrating the involvement of different local lineages in the development of the temple.
Inside, the main altar stands out, elevated and presided over by a magnificent baroque altarpiece with Solomonic columns.
Also noteworthy are the frescoes depicting Saint Dominic and, at the foot of the church, the choir covered with a ribbed vault, where the symbols and heraldry of the Dominican order are represented, including dogs with lit torches.
The visit thus allows one to appreciate a building where architecture, devotion and symbolic program are combined in a particularly expressive way.
