Rezuelo Mill

About this place

The Rezuelo Mill is one of the most interesting ethnographic elements of Membrilla and a very expressive testimony of the importance that the use of water had in the traditional economy of the town.

Located in the Rezuelo area, along the Azuer River, This building allows us to approach a functional architecture linked to the milling of grain, an essential activity for centuries for daily life and the supply of the population.

Its preservation also makes it one of the most representative pieces of the municipality's hydraulic heritage.

The mill was part of a much larger complex, as the Azuer River was dotted with eleven mills, which are preserved today in different states.

Among them all, the one in Rezuelo is the one that has best survived to this day, remaining active until the end of the 1970s.

At the end of the 20th century, it was restored and converted into a museum, which allowed for the preservation not only of the building itself, but also the memory of its internal processes and its former operation. Of the three original millstones, two are still preserved, enough to understand the technical logic of this type of traditional mill.

Originally, the mill had three millstones, although only two are currently preserved.

The visit allows one to understand not only the building itself, but also the technical logic of this type of machinery and its close relationship with the agricultural landscape of Membrilla.

Visiting the Molino del Rezuelo is therefore an excellent way to discover a heritage that is less monumental than other historic buildings in the town, but fundamental to understanding its productive history and its link with the Azuer River.
