About this place
The Casa de Don Diego is located in the square of the same name, next to one of the most emblematic spaces in the historic center of La Solana. It was the residence of the Counts of Casa Valiente and is already mentioned in the Ensenada Cadastre documents. Its heritage value was recognized in 1981, when it was declared a Monument of Artistic Interest; a few years later, in 1988, it was acquired by the City Council and restored to become a cultural center.
The building follows the traditional La Mancha palatial style, with a stately two-story façade and an orderly composition. The main entrance is prominently displayed in stone, and above it is a central balcony crowned by a coat of arms. Other notable features of the façade include the side balconies, four ornamental medallions, a canopy that visually separates the two sections, and a continuous frieze with triglyphs and metopes—elements that lend the whole a classical and representative air.
The interior retains one of its most attractive spaces: a central courtyard with a four-sided portico, Doric columns, an upper floor with balconies, and a glass roof. This courtyard allows one to understand the traditional layout of large urban residences, structured around an interior space that distributed the domestic and social life of the house. The visit combines civil architecture, aristocratic history, and contemporary cultural use, making it an essential stop on any urban tour of La Solana.
