About this place
The Ethnographic Museum is located on the outskirts of Ossa de Montiel, on the road to Villahermosa, inside a former road workers' hut. Its location, between the town center and the surrounding agricultural landscape, helps to understand the purpose of the visit: a space dedicated to the everyday memories of those who worked the land, the roads, the stone, the lime, the gypsum, and the natural resources of the area.
The building is interesting in its own right, as it preserves the image of a traditional wayside structure, built of stone and linked to the old road network. It was renovated from 1997 onwards to become a museum, giving new life to a modest but highly representative building of the region. Its value lies not in its grandeur, but in its ability to explain how people lived and worked in this part of the Campo de Montiel.
The collection, largely comprised of donations from local residents, offers a glimpse into various aspects of the local culture: traditional trades, shepherding, domestic life, the making of household goods, textiles, cooking, bedrooms, and communal spaces. It is a highly recommended visit, complementing the major natural and literary landmarks of Ossa de Montiel with a closer look at the daily lives of its inhabitants.
