Welcome to
Alcubillas is located at the western end of the Campo de Montiel, next to the right bank of the Jabalón River and very close to Villanueva de los Infantes.
Located on the La Mancha plateau, at an altitude of over 800 meters, it occupies a transitional territory between the open landscapes of the region and the routes that connect this area with other historical centers in the surrounding area.
Its municipal area, of approximately 47.5 km², borders Valdepeñas, Villanueva de los Infantes, Alhambra, San Carlos del Valle, Torre de Juan Abad and Cózar.
This position, linked to the course of the Jabalón River, helps to understand both its historical development and its role within the network of towns in the Campo de Montiel region.

Deep roots
The history of Alcubillas is closely linked to the Order of Santiago and the reorganization of the territory after the Christian conquest.
The first known mention of the place dates back to the year 747, under the toponym Alcoiellas, while in 1181 a bull of Lucius III confirms its donation to the Order of Santiago.
After the defeat at Alarcos, these lands temporarily returned to Muslim control, but in 1213, after Las Navas de Tolosa, Alfonso VIII again granted the Order all the towns of Campo de Montiel, including Alcubillas.
As early as 1243, it appears in documents as a defensive tower and its own parish, and for centuries it depended on Montiel, until in 1539 it achieved the status of a town and became part of the Crown and Royal Patrimony. Even during the War of Independence, it left a lasting memory of its resistance against Napoleon's troops.
