Pérez-Núñez House

Villahermosa

About this place

The Pérez-Núñez House is located on Feria Street, in one of the urban areas of Villahermosa where several examples of 17th- and 18th-century domestic architecture are preserved. It was also known as "la parisera's" house, a traditional name that adds interest to a building linked to local history and the changing uses of the town's former main houses. A visit should primarily be approached from the outside, as it continues to serve both residential and commercial purposes.

The preserved façade is notable for its ashlar masonry, arranged in two lintelled sections. The lower opening is enhanced by a prominent cornice, while the upper one retains moldings that reinforce the building's noble character. Although the structure has undergone alterations, these elements allow us to recognize the house's importance within the historic village of Villahermosa and its connection to the large houses organized around courtyards.

The interior retained a structure arranged around a courtyard with square masonry pillars and semicircular arches. Today, only two blocked arcades and one of the four arcades remain, but they still help to imagine the original layout of the house. In the entrance hall and corridor, remnants of a wooden coffered ceiling with corbels carved in the shape of volutes are preserved, some embedded in the masonry. In the mid-18th century, it belonged to José Valentín Fernández, foreman of Don Fernando Antonio Abat y Sandoval, and in the 20th century, it functioned as an apartment building, with an entrance from the old "street of the fleas," now Gabriel García Márquez Street.
