King's Household

The King's House is located in Ruidera, within an area where the built heritage is always understood in relation to water, lagoons, and the transformations undertaken in modern times. Within the town center, this building stands out as one of the most representative civil buildings in the area and as a key piece for understanding the importance that Ruidera achieved in the context of the actions promoted by the Crown in this part of the Upper Guadiana.

Its origin dates back to the 19th century XVIII, at a time of special momentum for Ruidera.

The tourist documentation consulted indicates that it was lifted by order of Charles III y designed by Juan de Villanueva, within that process of reorganization and use of the territory that gave the population a new protagonism.

In this context, the King's House was not an isolated construction, but part of a broader intervention that linked architecture, administration and exploitation of the surrounding hydraulic resources.

From an architectural point of view, it is a stately building which stands out for the sobriety of its image and for its clear adherence to the traditional architecture of La Mancha. neoclassical. It presents a Square floor plan, two stories and an upper chamber, with a homogeneous facade and whitewashed, which gives it a prominent presence within the hamlet.

The building suffered damage at the beginning of the 19th century due to the explosion of some nearby gunpowder mills, so it had to be repaired later.

All of this reinforces its interest as one of the most significant testimonies of the historical civil architecture of Ruidera.
