Ruidera Lakes

The Ruidera Lakes are Ruidera's main tourist attraction and one of the most unique water landscapes in La Mancha. The municipality lies between Laguna del Rey and Cueva Morenilla, in an environment where the topography, riverside vegetation, and bodies of water contrast sharply with the flatter, drier landscape of La Mancha. A visit allows you to enjoy a distinctive landscape, with swimming areas, viewpoints, hiking trails, and perfect spots for a peaceful break by the water.

The park's value lies in its series of stepped lagoons, connected by tufa barriers, waterfalls, and small cascades. These tufa formations act as natural dams and explain the interconnected appearance of the landscape. The Upper Guadiana River shapes this area, where water, rock, vegetation, and wildlife create a landscape of great natural and geological appeal. In Ruidera, visitors also have a convenient entry point to the park, with the Visitor Center being a recommended place to learn about trails, flora, fauna, and rules of use.

The lagoons also have a strong historical dimension. Their surroundings show evidence of occupation dating back to prehistoric times, ancient roads, medieval settlements, and significant hydraulic engineering in the modern era, visible in features such as the Casa del Rey (King's House), the gunpowder factory, the Grand Prior's canal, and the Puente de la Inclusa (Inclusa Bridge). A visit to Ruidera should not be limited to swimming or strolling along the shore: it allows you to explore a landscape where nature, archaeology, historic paths, and hydraulic engineering all come together in a single experience.
