Molina House

Villahermosa

About this place

The Molina House is part of the group of stately homes that make up the historic center of Villahermosa, linked to the urban consolidation that took place between the 16th and 18th centuries. Its location reflects the logic of occupying the main streets of the town center, in a context where certain wealthy families arranged their residences around spacious and well-defined areas, reflecting their social standing within the town.

From an architectural standpoint, the building reflects the characteristic models of traditional La Mancha domestic architecture with stately influences. It is organized around an access axis leading to a vestibule and, from there, to an interior courtyard that connects the various rooms. The façade presents a sober composition, predominantly masonry combined with stonework elements in the openings and entrances, following similar solutions to other documented main houses in the town. The openings are arranged regularly, adapting to later alterations, especially the contemporary renovations that introduced balconies and modifications to the upper floor.

Regarding its historical evolution, the house is linked to a local family with sufficient economic means to build or maintain this type of property, at a time when the social structure inherited from the Order of Santiago still conditioned the distribution of power and property. As with other examples in Villahermosa, the building has undergone processes of subdivision and functional adaptation, later becoming a compartmentalized residential space, which has affected both its internal configuration and its state of preservation.
