House of Francisco de Moya

Villahermosa

About this place

The House of Francisco de Moya is located on Pretorio Street, within the historic civil architecture of Villahermosa. It was also known as the House of the Marquis of Valdeguerrero and the Martínez Pacheco House, names that reflect the changes in ownership and family history of the property. Its origins date back to the 17th century, and it was one of the main houses associated with the noble and wealthy families who resided in the town during the Early Modern period.

The façade has undergone significant modifications, making it difficult to fully understand the original structure. Even so, the stone lintel doorway, with its ashlar jambs and lintel, is still recognizable, visually linked to the upper opening of the main room. This type of composition, sober and orderly, is characteristic of the stately architecture of Villahermosa, where the exterior representation was concentrated on the doorway, the main openings, and any heraldic or devotional elements.

The house followed the traditional model of a dwelling organized around a central square, arcaded courtyard, accessed from a vestibule located on the entrance axis. The courtyard had galleries on two levels: the lower level with Tuscan columns and large wooden brackets, and the upper level with uprights, a balustrade, and a wooden structure. Although the building has been significantly altered, it still retains elements of interest, such as remains of the courtyard, an interior door carved with a large cross on Mount Calvary and motifs from the Passion, as well as paneled doors and antique ironwork.
