About this place
The Almedina Town Hall occupies an old manor house linked to the Heredia family, a wealthy local family. It is integrated into the town center as one of the most representative civic buildings, within a network of streets where the historical significance of the town and the importance of its traditional architecture are still evident.
The building retains notable features of the original structure, especially the main entrance, with its columns and coat of arms, and a portico arranged on two levels. This monumental façade makes it an interesting stop on a city walk, as it reveals the presence of prominent families and the evolution of manor houses towards new public uses. Furthermore, the building is linked to Fray Muñoz de la Cueva, Bishop of Orense, theologian, and qualifier of the Holy Office, who was born here.
The visit allows visitors to discover a space that maintains its institutional and social function. It currently houses the Town Hall, the Health Center, the Post Office, the Library, the headquarters of the Tierras de Libertad Association, and the Campo de Montiel Studies Center. All of this is organized around a two-story, columned courtyard in the La Mancha style, which helps to understand the importance of these courtyards as centers of distribution, light, and daily life in local historical architecture.
