Albaladejo ocupa una posición singular en el extremo suroriental del Campo de Montiel, en un territorio de transición entre la llanura manchega y los relieves que anuncian Sierra Morena y el acceso natural hacia Andalucía. Esa situación geográfica le ha otorgado desde antiguo un notable valor estratégico, ya que su entorno ha funcionado históricamente como lugar de paso, contacto y control de caminos. Por ello, su paisaje no solo define su fisonomía, sino también buena parte de su evolución histórica.

Deep roots
El origen de Albaladejo se vincula a una ocupación muy antigua del territorio. En su término se documentan huellas destacadas de época romana, entre las que sobresale la villa de Puente de la Olmilla, uno de los yacimientos arqueológicos más importantes del Campo de Montiel. Este enclave testimonia la relevancia agrícola y económica de la zona en la Antigüedad, así como su integración en las grandes redes de comunicación de Hispania. Más adelante, durante la etapa andalusí, el lugar mantuvo su importancia como punto fortificado vinculado a la vigilancia del territorio y de las rutas que atravesaban este espacio fronterizo. Tras la conquista cristiana, Albaladejo pasó a formar parte de los dominios de la Orden de Santiago, integrándose en la organización política y defensiva de la comarca.
