Welcome to
Terrinches is one of the southern gateways to the Campo de Montiel, located in a transitional area where the plateau is already approaching the foothills of Sierra Morena.
The village adapts to the southern slope of a limestone plateau and still retains that direct relationship between relief, hamlet and control of the territory that explains a good part of its history.
Its location also made it a well-connected transit point, linked to long-distance historical roads and a road network that for centuries facilitated contact between La Mancha, Sierra Morena and the Sierra de Segura.

Deep roots
The history of Terrinches is understood as a superposition of landscapes and times.
In its immediate surroundings is the Roman villa of El Calvario and within its boundaries stand out such unique archaeological sites as La Ontavia or Castillejo del Bonete, which shows the antiquity of settlement in this area.
In medieval times, the town acquired clear strategic value thanks to the castle, built on the highest point of the village, and its connection to two major communication routes: the Royal Road of Andalusia and the road that linked Montiel with Segura de la Sierra, later converted into a livestock trail. This combination of ancient settlement, territorial control, and road network perfectly explains the historical importance of Terrinches within the southeastern part of the region.
