About this place
The Convent of the Incarnation is part of the valuable convent and historical complex of Villanueva de los Infantes, a town where religious architecture is naturally integrated into the monumental layout of its streets.
Although its function today is different from the original, the building still retains the interest of the old spaces linked to female convent life and constitutes a stop of special value within the heritage tour of the town.
It is a former Dominican nunnery, now transformed into an auditorium, a circumstance that has allowed the building to remain alive as a cultural space.
From the outside, its altarpiece-façade stands out, one of the most recognizable features of the building, as well as the relief of the Annunciation located above the door, an element that provides iconographic singularity and reinforces the religious identity of the whole.
Contemplating this facade allows the visitor to appreciate how the convent architecture of Infante combines structural sobriety and very precise decorative accents.
Along with its architectural interest, the convent also has added cultural value due to its connection with the local Cervantine tradition.
On one side of the facade is a plaque with the well-known study map prepared by Francisco Parra Luna and Manuel Fernández Nieto, related to the identification of Villanueva de los Infantes as the famous "place of La Mancha".
Thus, the visit combines religious heritage, cultural reuse of the building and literary projection, in an enclave that is highly representative of the historical personality of the town.
