Route description

Day 1 – Religious Literature
The journey begins in Villanueva de los Infantes, the historic capital of the Campo de Montiel region and a city that breathes the Golden Age on every corner. Its streets, lined with ancestral homes bearing noble coats of arms, are the prelude to a day marked by spirituality.

The Dominican Convent is the most moving stop: here is preserved the cell where Saint John of the Cross chose to die in 1591, transforming Infantes into a place of literary and mystical pilgrimage. The Convent of the Incarnation and the Hospital of Santiago complete the tour, illustrating how the religious reform and Christian charity preached by Saint Thomas of Villanova were translated into concrete and social action. The Church of San Andrés, a jewel of the Castilian-La Mancha Renaissance, houses the remains of Quevedo.

The day concludes in Fuenllana, the birthplace of Saint Thomas in 1486, where his Augustinian Convent is the spiritual heart of a town that fervently celebrates its religious and literary heritage every year.

Day 2 – Humanism and secular poetry
The second day begins at Montizón Castle, where Jorge Manrique served as Commander of the Order of Santiago, and where you can enjoy spectacular views over the Guadalén gorge. Just a few kilometers away lies Villamanrique, a town inextricably linked to the poet. Its stately homes, coats of arms, and imposing parish church speak of a lineage that united the pen and the sword, embodying the ideal of the Renaissance nobleman.

The journey concludes in Torre de Juan Abad, Quevedo's estate, where the writer sought refuge from court intrigues and conceived his masterpiece. His ancestral home, now an essential museum, reveals the more human side of Quevedo: a biting satirist, a poet of conceptist verse, and a stoic thinker who transformed exile into literary creation.

Gothic Route – Milky Way

Medieval Christian tradition identified the Milky Way with the Camino de Santiago: that path of stars crossing the night sky was the silent guide leading pilgrims to Compostela. We propose a metaphorical journey through stars sculpted in stone by the ribbed vaults, whose ribs intertwine like constellations to support the firmament of the churches that the Order of Santiago erected throughout the Campo de Montiel. No other territory in Castilla-La Mancha...
