Triviño Bridge

The Triviño Bridge is located south of Villanueva de los Infantes, over the Jabalón River, next to the old road that connected the town with Almedina. Its location perfectly illustrates the importance of roads in the Campo de Montiel region: a territory crisscrossed by livestock routes, historic paths, and possible routes of long-standing tradition. Today, visitors find it beside the current road, in a riverside area where the bridge is somewhat removed from modern traffic and better preserves its character as a historical landmark.

The structure is notable for its large dimensions, measuring approximately 100 meters long and 5 meters wide, and is constructed primarily of local red sandstone with a pebble pavement. It should not be considered a single-phase construction. The complex retains several arches and reflects successive renovations, including an earlier phase, likely linked to the Roman road network, and a major expansion at the end of the 18th century, undertaken to accommodate changes in the Jabalón riverbed and maintain passage between Infantes and Almedina.

The visit allows you to explore a truly unique viaduct, where you can see different types of masonry, arches, and construction techniques. The bridge's interest lies not only in its possible ancient origins but also in its long history as a vital communication infrastructure: a passage for people, livestock, carts, and goods for centuries. Its surroundings also connect with other key sites in the historical landscape of Infantes, such as the Jamila archaeological site, the Sanctuary of Our Lady of Antigua, and the ancient roads that once crisscrossed the Jabalón valley.
