The Alhóndiga

The Alhóndiga of Villanueva de los Infantes is a prominent piece within the historic civil architecture of the town.

Its significance lies not only in the building itself, but also in its integration within one of the most monumental historic centers of the Campo de Montiel region, where palaces, manor houses, and public buildings reflect the importance the town achieved during the Early Modern period. The project documentation includes it among the main heritage assets of Infantes and within the group of the town's most important civil buildings.

From an architectural point of view, the building presents a sober image and representative of the noble and public architecture of Infante.

On the outside, its p stand outLintelled doorways, articulated with Doric pilasters of rusticated ashlar, as well as the presence of coat of arms that refers to the Bustos family, one of the historical lineages of the town.

This combination of compositional severity, heraldry, and well-crafted stonework fits perfectly into the monumental urban environment that characterizes Villanueva de los Infantes.

Its historical trajectory also helps to better understand its heritage value. It was known as hiring house, Later it was used as a prison and today it is integrated into the cultural life of the town, linked to public functions such as the House of Culture and the Municipal Library.
