About this place
The Yáñez Open-Air Museum in Almedina transforms the town's streets into a cultural tour dedicated to Fernando Yáñez, one of the great names in Spanish Renaissance painting. Born in Almedina, his figure connects local history with the artistic atmosphere of the early Renaissance, especially with the Italian influence that marked his work.
Fernando Yáñez traveled to Italy at a young age, and his painting shows a clear connection to Leonardo's style, evident in the softness of the faces, the delicate treatment of gestures, and the use of sfumato. Added to this is his meticulous attention to fabrics, objects, and material qualities, a trait that links his work to the Flemish tradition present in Hispanic painting of his time.
The museum is conceived as an open, urban experience. Through 26 replicas of his works, installed on building facades and inside the Town Hall, visitors can explore Almedina, discovering pieces such as Saint Catherine of Alexandria, the Resurrection, and the Adoration of the Shepherds. The project allows visitors to see the town in a new light: not only as a historic center steeped in history, but also as an exhibition space integrated into everyday life.

Renaissance Art Route
The Campo de Montiel region boasts one of the most remarkable collections of Renaissance architecture and visual arts in Castilla-La Mancha. Throughout the 16th century, the economic prosperity fostered by the Order of Santiago and a flourishing local nobility financed churches, Plateresque portals, Mannerist altarpieces, and stately homes that still stand as the most visible testament to the region's splendor. It was also in this landscape that Fernando Yáñez de Almedina, a direct disciple of Leonardo da Vinci, was born.
