Route description

The Campo de Montiel is a land of history, heritage and towns that hold centuries of life.

Few things reflect this better than his main squares: those open spaces that for centuries have been the heart of its citizens, a place where they celebrated, played and simply lived.

This route proposes a tour through three of the most unique in the La Mancha region.

The First stop is La Solana, Its main square is striking for its spaciousness and arcaded architecture, reflecting the town's splendor and presided over by the imposing Church of Santa Catalina, with the tallest tower in the province. A complex that blends forms and eras with a unique character.

From there, the road leads to San Carlos del Valle, a small town that hides one of the region's most unknown gems: a square main square, laid out with a regularity and elegance typical of the enlightened urban planning of the 18th century, declared a Site of Cultural Interest.

The route It culminates in Villanueva de los Infantes, It is considered one of the best-preserved historical sites in Castilla-La Mancha. Its main square, dominated by the imposing Collegiate Church of San Andrés, directly evokes the atmosphere of the Golden Age, and this is no coincidence: Francisco de Quevedo lived and died here.

Three agoras, three stories, one same territory.

The Campo de Montiel invites you to explore it slowly, to sit in its arcades and let time, for once, not run.

Don Quixote's Trail through the Ruidera Lakes

In chapters XXII through XXIV of Part Two of Don Quixote, Cervantes sends Don Quixote of La Mancha, accompanied by Sancho Panza and a student who is a cousin of the skilled licentiate, to descend into the Cave of Montesinos. Renaissance Art Route

The Campo de Montiel region boasts one of the most remarkable collections of Renaissance architecture and visual arts in Castilla-La Mancha. Throughout the 16th century, the economic prosperity fostered by the Order of Santiago and a flourishing local nobility financed churches, Plateresque portals, Mannerist altarpieces, and stately homes that still stand as the most visible testament to the region's splendor. It was also in this landscape that Fernando Yáñez de Almedina, a direct disciple of Leonardo da Vinci, was born.
