Welcome to
Villahermosa is located in the eastern part of Campo de Montiel, in a transitional territory towards the foothills of the Sierra de Alcaraz, where the landscape combines limestone plateaus, springs, rivers and large areas of Mediterranean forest.
This position gives it a very distinct personality within the region, uniting the strength of the natural environment with the presence of a historical center that has served for centuries as the central hub of the territory.
Added to this are its outlying districts of Cañamares and Santa María, which expand the landscape and historical dimension of the municipality.

Deep roots
Its origins date back to the Middle Ages, when it went from being called Pozuelo to receiving the name Villahermosa, since then being linked to the reorganization of the territory under the Order of Santiago.
Over time it achieved its independence from Montiel, consolidating itself as one of the prominent towns in this sector of Campo de Montiel.
This historical trajectory helps to understand the presence of a remarkable heritage, both religious and civil, and also the importance that the Villahermosa encomienda had in the organization of neighboring spaces and in the evolution of other nearby towns.
A visit to Villahermosa offers a unique experience where heritage, traditions, and landscape blend seamlessly. The Church of Our Lady of the Assumption, the Sanctuary of Our Lady of the Holm Oak, the hermitages, the Commander's House, and other principal residences showcase the town's rich history, while its natural surroundings, with landscapes defined by water and pastureland, provide a valuable complementary attraction. It's a destination best enjoyed by strolling through the town center and then complementing the experience with visits to some of its most representative natural and religious sites.

Gothic Route – Milky Way
Medieval Christian tradition identified the Milky Way with the Camino de Santiago: that path of stars crossing the night sky was the silent guide leading pilgrims to Compostela. We propose a metaphorical journey through stars sculpted in stone by the ribbed vaults, whose ribs intertwine like constellations to support the firmament of the churches that the Order of Santiago erected throughout the Campo de Montiel. No other territory in Castilla-La Mancha...
